Memorial Day Weekend is often viewed as the first unofficial day of summer, and it's also a time to reflect and remember the men and women who have given their lives in service of our country. Many communities on Long Island host their own Memorial Day parades to commemorate the holiday, and our real estate agents suggest gathering with your neighbors and attending one of the following parades:
Bring your flag to wave and line the streets as the Joint Veterans Organization and the city of Long Beach host their annual Long Beach Memorial Day Parade in honor of those who have served and sacrificed for our country. After stepping off at Ohio Avenue and West Beech Street, the parade will proceed down New York Avenue to Park Avenue before ending at City Hall, 1 W. Chester St., Long Beach, NY 11561.
Take part in the quintessentially hometown tradition of the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade, which passes by near Little Neck homes for sale as well as Douglaston homes for sale. It has marched - rain or shine - in the two communities and been hosted by American Legion Post #103 every year since 1927. The Grand Marshal for this year's parade will be Thomas Evangelos Danos, a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel (retired). Free refreshments, including hot dogs and treats from local merchants, will be served while they last.
Sponsored by the United Veterans and Fraternal Organizations of Maspeth and Maspeth Federal Savings, this Memorial Day parade is an annual tradition that attracts a big turnout. After the parade, a ceremony will be held at Maspeth Memorial Park, 69th Street and Grand Avenue, to honor our service men and women.
Glen Cove's Memorial Day happenings start with an 11 a.m. Military Banner unveiling on Sunday, May 24, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at noon. Events continue Monday, May 25 with the Memorial Day Parade, which takes place near Glen Cove homes for sale. The city invites families of veterans to take part in the Family Honor Section as everyone remembers, honors, and carries on their legacy.
Following a route similar to previous years, the 2026 Oyster Bay Memorial Day Parade starts at Dawes Ave. near Oyster Bay homes for sale. As a reminder, the procession no longer pauses in the Florence Park neighborhood. The town's fire department takes the lead in organizing the parade, which will be followed by a memorial service at the gazebo in front of Town Hall, 54 Audrey Ave.
